Tabitha Fink On A Mission To Mars – Review by Ellen Feld for Feathered Quill

Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 2.33.51 PMHang onto your hats…er…spaceships (!) because Tabitha Fink, the amazing one-eyed cat, is at it again, and this time she’s heading to Mars!

We first met Tabitha Fink in the delightful book Tabitha Fink: The Cat With One Eye. In that story, Tabitha Fink showed the world that she’s a pretty awesome cat, and while she only has one eye, that certainly didn’t hold her back from doing ANYTHING. In fact, it is, in part, what makes her amazing and super cool. The story has a great message for kids to be what they want, and despite any ‘differences’ they may have, they’re all pretty amazing and super cool too.

Now Tabitha Fink has decided to take a trip to Mars (!) and she’s taking us along. You see, Tabitha Fink is curious about the people on Mars. How do they travel? What do they eat? Do they like to paint or perhaps draw?

When Tabitha Fink arrives on Mars, she quickly meets the local Martians. A charming group of smiling folks, they show Tabitha Fink around the landscape. The curious cat learns all about local food and customs. But then she spots a little Martian who is quite shy. Will Tabitha Fink be able to help the little space child conquer his fears?

When I saw another Tabitha Fink book arrive for review, I grabbed it for myself. I reviewed the first book about this wonderful one-eyed cat (did you know there is a real Tabitha Fink? – you can learn more about her/see a photo at the author’s website). Like the first, this tale is told in simple rhyme that keeps the story moving at a brisk pace. The story is adorable and the illustrations are absolutely perfect. Perhaps the most creative thing here is the use of imaginary things that the Martians use, and that the author actually manages to find words to rhyme with these odd-sounding creations. Try rhyming “Flipperty-Flang” with something that doesn’t sound forced! Overall, this is another book that young (and old) cat enthusiasts, as well as those who simply enjoy a fun story, will love.

Quill says: Another winner from author Rick Felty. I hope he plans to send Tabitha Fink on many more adventures because I can’t wait to see where she goes next!

5 starsTabitha Fink On A Mission To Mars – Review by Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers’ Favorite

“Different is cool, says Tabitha Fink and it is cool to learn new things, even if, at first, they seem a little bit scary. But Tabitha Fink isn’t scared. In fact, she’s a cat on a mission to learn all she can, this time about the far distant planet of Mars. She knows that a lot of things are different on Mars, like the things Martians do for fun, how they travel, and the food they eat, but she doesn’t know what the differences are and she’s determined to find out.

Tabitha Fink makes an excursion to Mars in her spaceship and she meets some really cool young Martians who teach her how they play, how they travel, and what they eat. But there is one Martian who is afraid to come and meet Tabitha Fink. She reaches out in friendship and points out that it doesn’t matter if we’re all different, that’s what makes life so interesting.5star-shiny-hr

Rick Felty’s colorfully illustrated picture book story, Tabitha Fink On a Mission to Mars, is a clever teaching tool to help young readers overcome or at least try to manage their fear of things that are new and different. By using a cute cat as the brave explorer, the story, with its rhyming verse and humorous innuendos, allows young readers to feel good and brave like Tabitha Fink. The cat herself is even different as she only has one eye, but that doesn’t stop her from exploring and learning about the universe around her. This is a great inspirational and fun story for young readers.”

5 starsTabitha Fink On A Mission To Mars – Review by Stacey Blake author of Chippy The Mechanic

Tabitha Fink is a sweet rhyme book that has within it several deeper life messages that I absolutely love. The first is that Tabitha is a special little kitty with one eye. Despite not being perfect, Tabitha is full of zest for life and she loves adventures. I think any story that promotes loving an animal that is not physically perfect is so important for young readers. I also love space stories and any story today about travel to Mars is timely with the new Mars missions being planned. All through the story Tabitha encourages children to release their fears about places and people that are new and who look different. This is a sweet lovely book that promotes kindness and acceptance.

Tabitha Fink is back! Back in her second book, back with that characteristic self-esteem, and back from Mars! I know. I just went with her! And I want to go again! Tabitha Fink On a Mission to Mars rhymes so playfully that both you and your children will be on a cat rocket ship to Mars and no one is going to miss the television. Tabitha Fink, the famous one-eyed cat, not only teaches us about Martian food and play, but also instructs us about caring when she befriends a timid Martian child. The highly detailed, colorful pages stimulate – inviting giggles. And just when you think the story is finished, there’s a happy plot twist at the end that will please everyone. No spoilers here! You’ll have to read the book. Author Rick Felty, whose first Tabitha Fink book is a two-time award-winner, has even designed a website for those curious young ones to view the real Tabitha Fink, the one-eyed cat. I don’t know what Tabitha Fink will be up to next, but Rick Felty, the Emmy Award-winning producer/writer, hopefully won’t keep any of us guessing for long. I recommend this book to all! – Amazon Reader “CF”

This book is filled with fun and witty rhymes, and rich, vivid illustrations. The message that young readers are sure to learn is that there’s nothing to fear about the differences in others. Tabitha Fink On A Mission To Mars is a delightful read for young children. There are so many discussion points for parents or teachers to use with the young readers, this book should be read over and over. I love the idea that the heroine, herself, has differences which set her apart from other cats. Not all picture books work well in rhyme, but TFOAMTM not only has fun rhymes, but really fun nonsense words that the readers young and not-so-young will enjoy rolling around their tongues. – Amazon Reader “Kathryn”
